Please Welcome Chef Ryan!

Everyone here at Rockford Brewing is so excited our kitchen renovation is FINALLY underway!

When we were brainstorming the concept of an in-house kitchen, we knew we wanted to make sure our food matched our beer — Michigan-centric, seasonally timely, unique and sometimes a little bit surprising.

….and we knew we needed just the right Chef to run the helm.

Luckily, we’ve found him. With that in mind, we are happy to introduce you to our new Executive Chef, Chef Ryan Bolhuis!Ryan Blog Post

Chef Ryan Bolhuis is an alumnus of The French Culinary Institute in Manhattan and a veteran of some of the most distinguished restaurants in America. He has developed his own creative and internationally influenced style, by working in the kitchens of Nobu 57, Babbo, The Modern NYC, & BLT Fish (where he met his mentor: Chef Christopher Haddock). With an already full schedule, he filled his “days off” with stages at other notable NYC establishments to further his skills and knowledge.

The Hudsonville native has always had the goal to return to West Michigan and utilize as much of the local product as possible.

“I’ve always seen West Michigan as an overlooked culinary-centric part of the world. I don’t know of any chef who wouldn’t love to be surrounded by this many farms and this great of product.”

Chef Ryan is eager to merge his love of craft beer and food together at Rockford Brewing Co. His goal is to create a menu that centers around local products and celebrates the craft beer community.

“Great beer and great food, in my opinion, all stem from the same vein of thought. Respect for ingredients, respect for the farmers/growers & respect for the culture. A great drink and a great plate of food is a universal experience that can make a good day great or make a bad day better. We here at RBC want to celebrate that relationship both from our own backgrounds and from a multi-cultural perspective.”

If you see Chef Ryan’s  at our pub, be sure to say hello! He’ll probably be drinking his (current) favorite RBC beer — our Paradigm MPA.  He says it’s got: “Great balance, perfect for this time of year, refreshing, and of course all Michigan ingredients only makes it better!”
